Pakistani forces launched an airstrike on Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) stronghold areas in Nangarhar province, following repeated ‘warnings’ from both Taliban-Pakistan Governments, an Afghanistan newspaper ‘Hasht-e-Subh Daily’ reported.
Reports quoting sources in Nangarhar said that Pakistani fighters bombed targets in the Salala neighbourhood near the Gushta District.
Pakistan’s National Security Council (NSC) reportedly decided three days ago that the Country’s forces should adopt a zero-tolerance policy against terrorists.
TTP is a separate entity from the Taliban in Afghanistan but shares a similar Islamist Ideology.
The episode comes amid an uptick in terrorist attacks across Pakistan believed to have been planned and directed by the outlawed TTP leaders based in Afghanistan, Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’ reported.
It was also claimed that the TTP, which has ideological linkages with the Afghan Taliban, executed more than 100 attacks last year, most of which happened after August 2022, when the group’s peace talks with the Pakistan Government began to falter.
The ceasefire was formally ended last year on November 28 by the TTP.
On January 05, the Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) categorically rejected reports claiming Pakistan had carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan.
