The most widely use Search Engine Google has released its annual report for 2022, which shows the most searched words that made gossip and speculations on the platform. The list varies from country to country.

In India, the most searched topics were sports and entertainment compared to 2021, when the word ‘COVID-19’ dominated.
Overall, the India Premier League (IPL) topped the trending search in India. The next on the list was CoWIN App (COVID-19 Vaccine portal for vaccination details).

Nupur Sharma, the former BJP spokesperson, was the most-searched and trended person in India on Google in 2022. Nupur Sharma came to light when she commented about Muhammad during a debate on May 26, 2022.

Notably, Nupur was only quoting Quran and Hadith on the show. After this dog whistle by Islamist Propagandist and Alt News Co-founder Mohammad Zubair and his fellow Islamists started sending her rape, death and beheading threats. The less sophisticated messages with slogans like “Gustakh-e-Rasool Ki Ek Hi Saza, Sir Tan Se Juda, Sir Tan Se Juda” (call for beheading) were sent to those who supported Nupur Sharma.

After all this Udaipur witnessed a Talibani incident in the broad day light where a Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal was beheaded for supporting Nupur Sharma on social media by two religious terrorism inspired Muslim youth, one of them works in a local Mosque.

The second most-searched person in India was the President Droupadi Murmu. Droupadi Murmu, the first scheduled tribe woman President of India, took over the post on July 25. Murmu received 2,824 votes with a value of 6,76,803 while her opponent Sinha secured 1,877 votes with a value of 3,80,177. A total of 4,809 MPs and MLAs cast their votes in the polling that took place on July 18.
In 2015, Murmu became the first woman governor of Jharkhand. She also became the first woman tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed as the governor of a state.

Rishi Sunak who secured the 3rd rank in the list became the first Indian origin-British and Hindu Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on October 25. Sunak is married to an Indian citizen, Akshata Murty, who is the daughter of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy.

The unfortunate death of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala were also among the most-searched topics from 2022.

Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, a close aide of the feared gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has taken responsibility for the sensational Sidhu Moosewala murder. Notably, he was murdered a day later when the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government had withdrawn police security of Moosewala and others and had published the list of those VIPs whose security was withdrawn, claiming this as an achievement.
