Kerala Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry into an incident as more than 100 people have become ill after eating spoiled food in Kerala.
The incident occurred on December 29, after all the victims had consumed food post attending a ceremony.
The incident took place in the Kilvaipur area of Kerala’s Pathanamthitta District. A baptism ceremony was held last December 29. Many people who participated in this event and ate the food suffered from health problems.
The affected people have been admitted to various hospitals in the district, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The Kerala Health Minister ordered an enquiry into the matter, and the Food Safety Commissioner has been instructed to conduct the probe and submit a detailed report.
The police said they filed a case against the catering service agency. Food samples were collected and sent for testing, the police said.
The person, presently serious, is in a hospital, while the rest are out of danger, the police said.
Cases have been registered under sections 268, 272 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code against the catering agency.
In another similar incident, 18 people fell ill in Assam’s Majuli District as they complained of vomiting, stomach ache, and other suspected food poisoning symptoms in August last year.
The reports stated that people fell ill after consuming ‘prasad’ at a religious function in the Maharichuk area near Garmur in the Majuli District.
