Imphal: In a breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested one of the prime accused terrorists of MNPF who was involved in the ambush on the Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur on November 13 2021. In a joint operation with Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, NIA arrested Machukring Zamshim Shimray, alias Ningkham. Arrested terrorist Shimray was involved in an ambush of an Assam Rifles convoy on November 13, 2021, in the Churachandpur district of Manipur, in which Colonel Viplab Tripathi, his wife, minor son and four other security personnel lost their lives. Manipur police confirms that the MNPF terrorist arrested on Saturday from Yaingangpokpi Junction, Imphal East, near an oil pump at around 10.30 am. NIA had announced a cash reward of Rs.4 lakhs on the arrested terrorist Ningkham. The NIA took over the investigation of the ambush on the Assam Rifles convoy on November 27, 2021. Police said that the arrested terrorist joined the banned outfit MNPF in 2016. The self-styled is a prohibited business of one of the masterminds of the ambush on the Assam Rifles convoy on November 13 2021, in Churachandpur district along with another banned outfit, PLA’s terrorists. He was also involved in several ambushes against the security forces, mainly against the Assam Rifles, including the Khong Tai, Chandel ambush on July 29, 2020, wherein three security personnel were killed and six injured, as per police reports.

The arrested person was handed over to the NIA Imphal team for further legal action. On November 13, 2021, the commanding officer of the 46 battalions of Assam Rifles (AR), Vivplap Tripathi and his family, along with the other four Jawans of the Assam Rifles, were killed the convoy carrying the officer came under heavy attack by militants in Churachandpur district of Manipur. Seven jawans of the Assam Rifles were also injured in the deadly attack by MNPF and PLA terrorists.

The attack was the deadliest in the Northeastern region since the 2015 ambush in which 20 army personnel were killed in Paraolon village in the Chandel district of Manipur.
