Pinarayi led govt suspends 2 employees, arrests 1 over post on late Kodiyeri, late CPM Kerala state secretary

The recent arrest and suspensions by the LDF Government bursts once again the myth of the "tolerant" left.

Vishnu G. Kumar, native of Kayamkulam (Allapuzha district) and driver in Mullumala Estate of State Farming Corporation, is arrested for posting defaming comments in social media against late

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, former home minister and erstwhile CPM Kerala state secretary. One police man had apologised for the same action. Another government employee is under suspension.   Vishnu was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a local DYFI worker.

Earlier, Santosh Raveendran, Head Clerk in Chithara Sub Registrar Office, was suspended from the service for allegedly defaming late Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Facebook. State Registration IG took the action against Santosh. Local police had registered a case against Santosh in this regard.

In Thiruvananthapuram, Uroob, Additional Sub Inspector in Medical College Police Station, posted his apologies in FB for posting defamation against Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. He explains that he had deleted the matter he had posted in a school group within thirty seconds, as soon as he realised that it was wrong. He adds that he had posted condolences in the social media as soon as Kodiyeri died.

As soon as the issue came to the notice, the City Police Commissioner Sparjankumar had suspended him from the service. Uroob is the former gunman of Mullappalli Ramachandran, former union minister and former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President.  Uroob posted the alleged defamation in the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA)  group of a school in Pothencode. He is a member of the Association. CPM had sieged Medical College Police Station demanding actions against Uroob.

The quick actions against the accused in the defamation cases remind one of several similar cases which did not invite a single police or departmental action against the culprits. Lot of state government employees posted defamation after defamation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several college magazines, controlled by SFI men, carried articles, cartoons and caricatures insulting Modiji. In several colleges, SFI men carried out punch challenge on dummies bearing PM’s picture. In some other colleges, AISF, student wing of CPI, conducted kick challenge by making the students kick on the pictures of our prime minister spread on the floor of the campuses. Complaints lodged by BJP and ABVP workers fell on deaf ears.

Therefore, if the actions denote a good start, it is a warm welcome. But, if it is going to be a ‘one-way justice’, it will be most absurd.
