Hours before Government of India banned the radical Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) for a period of five years, Pakistan’s Consulate General Vancouver replied to a tweet by PFI and tagged several organisations affiliated with UN and EU as a last throw of dice.
In the now deleted tweet the verified twitter handle of Pakistan Consulate general had replied to a completely misinformed tweet by PFI stating that the raids were being conducted in only BJP ruled states and that this was autocratic action on a democratic protest.
The truth is that it was nationwide raid on PFI offices and residences of PFI office bearers carried out on 15 states in the country with more than 100 arrests of PFI activists. And the state where PFI was born, Kerala, is where the maximum the maximum arrests took place and the most sinister designs discovered.
The viral tweet by Pakistan embassy not only displays its deep link with anti-national forces working in India but also shows Shehbaz Sharif’s hollow rhetoric at the UN. In his UN General Assembly address Sharif reiterated that Pakistan wants to have peace with India but added that long-lasting, enduring peace can only be “insured and guaranteed” through a just and fair solution to the issue of Kashmir under the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions.
The incident on Twitter also confirms the deep links that Muslim countries around the world have with the terrorist outfit PFI. During the nationwide crackdown on PFI, incriminating documents seized during search operations at the offices of the outfit and residences of its office bearers revealed that the outfit has “thousands of active members in Gulf countries”.
The love and support appear to be mutual as seen in the PFI protest march in Pune on Friday where pro-Pakistan slogans were chanted during the protests held by activists of the PFI. Members of the now banned outfit had gathered outside the Pune District Collectorate office to protest against the arrest of its members in several states. During the protests, the PFI members were heard chanting slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. Police has detained 40 of them and the government of Maharashtra has promised strict action against those who raised anti-India slogans.
While Pakistan faces the brunt of abuse in this matter, Canada and its continued support to anti-India activities should not go unnoticed. On September 19, some Canadian groups living in the city of Brampton had participated in a ‘Sikh Referendum’. India raised serious concerns on this issue calling it a “farcical exercise” by radical elements. Further investigation reveals that there is Pakistani involvement here too. While Shehbaz Sharif wants the world to believe that Kashmir is the only bone of contention between the two countries, it is quite evident that one can find the traces of a Pakistani hand in a wide array of anti Indian forces working within the country.
