Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) goons attacked the birthday celebrations of Sree Narayana Gurudev, the legendary Hindu Monk and one of major pioneers of social renaissance in Kerala. The attack occurred on September 10, 2022, Saturday. Several devotees, including women and children, sustained injuries. The condition of one of the injured is serious.

The Jihadis stormed into the assembly of devotees during Gurudev’s birthday celebrations on Chthayam day. It was the zodiac (star) Gurudev was born under. The goons unleased widespread attack in Poruvazhi, Sasthamkotta, Kollam district. The celebrations were conducted under the auspices of Kumaranashan Memorial SNDP Sakha. During the entertainment programmes of children two motor bikers rode near the programme place obviously at an excessive speed. When they kept on repeating, in a provocative style, organisers stopped them and asked to reduce the speed.

They got angry. They left and came back with about forty bikers. And, they attacked the people assembled there for the celebrations. When the organisers tried to prevent them from the the rampage, they were brutally attacked. The panic-stricken women and children fled the place with tears in their eyes. The goons destroyed the entire decorations and paraphernalia kept there for the celebrations. Ten of the organisers were badly injured. Sakha office bearer Prathapan’s (48) head is seriously injured and he has been taken to Medical College Hospital. Tension prevails in the whole area.

Reports from the area suggest that Kampalati Itikkandachira area in Kollam district is called ‘Mini Taliban’ and is in the tight grip of SDPI men. Police Intelligence Department had reported to the Police brass that SDPI goons from this place gather for trouble making if SDPI attacks take place anywhere in the district. The criminals from this area are accused in several anti-social incidents in the district.

  • Years back some Ayyappa devotees got lost and landed up in that area. They were attacked.
  • A soldier’s house was attacked in Kottarakkara.
  • Annadaanam (free supply of meals in Kerala temples) in a temple was attacked by the goons who stormed their vehicles into the ritual. They attacked the devotees with fatal weapons. The criminals from the aforementioned area were the culprits. Despite registering the case with the names of several accused persons none has been arrested. Apex body of the SNDP Sakha has registered their strong protests against the SDPI attacks. They regret as police keeps getting cold feet.

These incidents are becoming so common that no Keralite will be taken by surprise when they hear this attack. Because both ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front and (Opposition) Congress-led United Democratic Front are in neck-to-neck competition for grabbing minority vote bank, these anti Hindu elements are getting a free hand. Pseudo secularism is their common style. Therefore, Hindu sections are always at the receiving end in the state.
