Kokrajhar (Assam) [India]: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a jibe at Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra which is set to kickstart on Wednesday and said that the party should conduct this campaign in Pakistan if “they want to start the campaign”, while stressing that “India is connected and united.”
The Chief Minister said that India was divided in 1947 and there is no benefit of starting the Bharat Jodo Yatra in India.
“India was divided in 1947 during Congress. If they want to start Bharat Jodo Yatra, then Rahul Gandhi should do this in Pakistan. What are the benefits of doing this Yatra in India? India is connected, and united. I want to suggest Rahul Gandhi to take the Bharat Jodo Yatra programme to Pakistan,” Sarma told ANI on Tuesday.
Earlier in February this year Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described India as an union of states and tweeted “From Kashmir to Kerala. From Gujarat to West Bengal. India is beautiful in all its colours.” Slamming Gandhi for deleting North East from his version of India, Dr. Sarma Said,” Don’t insult the spirit of India. India is far beyond just a union. We are a proud Nation. Bharat cannot be held hostage to your tukde tukde philosophy. What is your problem with Nation, Nationality and Nationalism? And beyond Bengal, we Northeast exist which is an integral part of India.”
It should be mentioned that The ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ campaign will kick start on Wednesday (September 7) from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and terminate in Jammu & Kashmir. It will cover 3,570 km in 12 states and two Union territories, and will last 150 days.
Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement comes a day ahead of the launch of the nationwide campaign by the Congress party.
