Kerala Legislative Assembly today (September 1, 2022) cancelled the law leaving the Waqf Board appointments with Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). The new move of the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is in the light of the discussion and consequent agreement between the CPM leaders and Muslim organisations. Muslim organisations were absolutely against the decision to involve PSC in the Waqf appointments. Congress, naturally, supported the Muslim bodies, because, Indian Union Muslim League is the second largest partner in Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF). Muslim League, SDPI, PFI and all other denominations of Muslim community opposed the earlier bill tooth and nail. Here in Kerala, all political and social bodies, excluding RSS, BJP and all other Sangh-inspired organisations are keenly contesting among themselves to appease minorities, especially Muslim community, thanks to the vote bank politics in the state.

Apparently, the new government bill supersedes the previous bill which authorised KPSC for Waqf appointments. And, it was passed unanimously; both LDF and UDF joined hands for the sake of appeasement.

Therefore, LDF has once again bowed before the organised Muslim vote bank and left the Waqf appointments with the communal leaders of Muslim community.
