Guwahati: The Assam Police on Thursday arrested a terrorist linked with Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in Assam’s Goalpara district.

The man, identified as Abdus Chowahan, a resident of Goalpara was arrested from Bongaigaon while he was trying to abscond after the arrest of two Imams from Goalpara. Abdus was arrested on the  basis of inputs provided by two imams arrested on 22 August from Goalpara district. Two imams

Abdus Sobahan and Jalaluddin Seikh were arrested for their involvement in jihadi activities.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the arrested person Abdus has confessed that he was linked with Al Qaeda and also recruited several for the terrorist outfit. Some of his linked persons were arrested in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. From all the interrogations we have come to know that they are doing the Jihadi activities in a very planned way. These modules have already trained several groups in Assam and they are preparing warriors for the future to spread Jihad in the state, Mahanta added.

The police have arrested 33 Jihadi so far since March this year and a strict vigil is being maintained, particularly in the minority-dominated areas of lower and central Assam.
