There is no end to attacks on Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu. A group of “Miscreants’ damaged two temples at Kandivakkam near Singuvarchathiram in the Kancheepuram district.

According to locals, the gang entered the Karpaga Vinayaga temple at Tulasapuram on the 20th night, where they damaged Murugan, Dhakshinamurti, Parvathy, Durga, Nagathamman, Navagraha idols, Trisuls, and threw them in a nearby vacant land. They then entered the nearby (50 meters distance) Lakshmi Amman temple. In both temples, the gang has vandalised 22 idols. On hearing of the incident, villagers held a road roko stir blocking the road and demanding the arrest of miscreants. Due to heavy rains, the power supply was discontinued that night. This was a blessing in disguise for the gang. Locals say, “damaging idols have been a recurring one, and no arrests have so far been made. We suspect it could be the handiwork of Abrahamic forces which are against idol worship and to spread their religion”.

The state has recently witnessed a high rise in Temples attacks. In fact, during the first week of January this year, four incidents of idol vandalism were reported in the southern state.

Amman temple in Perambalur, Durga Devi Mandir in Ranipet and Murti of Shri Krishna in Coimbatore were vandalised by attackers. Meanwhile, due to sluggish actions by Tamil Nadu Police, only one of the vandalists has been arrested. Moreover, just after his arrest, Police labelled him as ‘mentally unstable.

In Attipattu village next to Kaveripakkam in Ranipet district, the Pujari of ancient Durgai Amman temple was shocked when on 2nd January, he found that Navagraha Sannidhi’s idols were broken. The Trishul was also lying in a failed state. In Coimbatore, the idols of Sri Krishna were found in a vandalised form by the public. In October-November, Perambalur witnessed similar rounds of attacks on temples. Interestingly, all these are sub-temples of the famous Siruvachur Madura Kaliamman temple. It was attacked four times. Mind you; these temples are under the control of the state government-controlled Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR and CE). You-tuber Karthik Gopinath, who collected funds to rebuild Siruvachur Madura Kaliamman, was arrested on false charges and is now on bail. In September, a Muslim man was nabbed by Police for setting fire to a temple car in a village in Perambalur. The Muslim man had done it for his ‘curiosity’.

In November last, the Kanaga Kaleeswarar temple near Sriperumbudur, run by Tapovanam Charitable trust, has been managing its success and helping small temples around it to survive. A few days ago, the temple was razed to the ground-based on accusations that the temple encroached on government land. It is a big list.

Hindu Munnani state secretary Parameswaran said, “Over 250 temples during the past one year have demolished in Tamil Nadu on the allegation of encroaching government land but none of the illegal churches, mosques that have been abutting the water bodies or on government land are touched. No due process of law was followed in the demolitions Ever since the Dravidian stock or model government took the reins of Tamil Nadu, there have been targeted attacks on Hindu Temples. In all these incidents, police arrest someone labelling him a mentally ill person. It is a million dollar question how such persons only attack Hindu temples and pull down mega size idols single handedly? Hindu phobic and anti-Brahmin Periyarists are currently running routes in the state. This is the time we have to launch a war against Abrahamic religions, DMK, DK, VCK, left, SDPI, PFI to save our temples, culture and Hindus. If we fail to act, we may experience what is happening to pandits in Kashmir, West Bengal, and Kerala and will face persecution by them”.
