During a national television channel debate, R Vikraman, spokesperson of Thol Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigai Katchi (VCK) made certain highly offensive obscene remarks against Hindu gods, more particularly about Lord Krishna.

Vikraman, like his leader, is known for rabid rhetoric on Hinduism, Hindu gods and spiritual beliefs, and anti-Modi comments. Putting abusive and vulgar videos, speeches, and articles on Hindu Gods are on the rise after DMK came to power.

In a recent incident in Madurai where the rally participants spewed venom against Hindus and Hindu Gods. These fringe outfits in Tamil Nadu took a rally abusing Goddess Amman, Lord Krishna, and Lord Ayyappan and insulting Hindu faith followers. Rabid Hindu phobic outfits like Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK), Thol Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Popular Front of India, Communists, and other “Periyar”-ist letter pad entities had organized a ‘mega-rally’ under the name of “Periyariya Unarvalargal Kottamaippu” in Madurai on May 29, 2022. This rally was publicized as the “Sensattai Rally” (Redshirts march). In the rally, members belonging to the DVK led by the outfit’s Namakkal district head comrade Swaminathan raised slogans abusing Hindu Gods and Hindus. “That Maari (Goddess Amman) who asks for the sacrifice of goats and pigs a God? Is Kannan (Lord Krishna), who raped woman, a God? Will a child be born if a man and man have sex? Is calling Ayyappan a God rational? and so on”, the men clad in red shirts can be heard shouting in a video that was in circulation.

At the event, Thol Thirumavalan said, “Constitutional rights exist only during elections. Once polls are over, BJP rules the nation based on Manusmriti. We must fight RSS ideology and never allow them to rule us.” He also said that Periyarists, Ambedkarites and Marxists must come together to “create equality among the people”. At the end of the rally, they conducted a ‘Varga & Varna Aadhikka Ozhippu’ conference (conference on abolishing class, varnas and dominance).

The Pazhanganatham conference, headed by Tamil Puligal Katchi ( Tamil Tigers party) leader Nagai Thiruvalluvan also launched a book named ‘ Veezhattum Paarpaniyam, Sadhiyam, Mudhalaliyam ‘( Let the Brahminism, Casteism and Capitalism fall).

This is the third rally held by Periyariya Unarvalargal Kootamaippu (federation of Periyar followers). Earlier, the group organized a ‘black-shirt’ rally in December 2018 at Trichy and a ‘blue-shirt’ rally in February 2020 at Trichy.

While defending the anti- Hindu slogans raised at a rally in Madurai on May 29 on a national television channel, Vikraman made objectionable remarks about Lord Krishna. During the debate on Times Now, he accused Lord Krishna of having illicit relationships in his youth with the Gopigas. Vikraman said, “Krishna’s young age was full of illicit (immoral) love affairs with the women of Brindavan in Maudra near Delhi. It was called Rasaleela.” BY saying such highly derogatory remarks, he has the tenacity to say what he said is all in Puranas.

Enraged by his comments in an on-air live- show, co-panellist Rahul Eswar expressed grief and objection to this, saying that Vikraman cannot insult anyone’s God in this way. He said, “The Puranas are a symbolic description. It can’t be taken in the literal meaning. For example, if it is written in the Puranas that Ravana had ten heads; it does not literally mean that he carried ten heads, but it actually means that he was as intelligent as ten men put together. It means that he was a very intelligent and learned person.”

Rahul Eswar further said, “Similarly, whenever someone says that Ayyappa is a son of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, it does not mean that Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu married each other. All it means is that Ayyappa is a form that integrates both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, and Ayyappa is very significant in bringing two important sects of Hinduism – Vaishnava, and Shaiva- together. Similarly, Lord Krishna’s relationship with Gopis was not illicit but it was a spiritual bond. Making such remarks about Hindu gods and goddesses is nothing but Hindu phobia. Such people want to insult Hindu civilization and beliefs. Therefore, they make such indecent, obscene, and objectionable comments.”.

DMK founder Anna asked why Madurai Meenakshi needs a diamond nose shed; former CM Karunanidhi in which college did lord Ram study Engineering, will the stone idol ever speak? Will Goddess Mariamman get monthly cycles (menses)? VCK men Aroor Shahnawaz asked those who say Andal was Periyar’s daughter did they bear the torch? Thirumalavan said all Hindu women are prostitutes, and lyricist Vairamuthu said Andal is a DEvadaasi etc., it is in their blood to make obscene unprintable comments on Hindu gods. Unless Hindus awake and raise their voice in unison, these rhetoric and rants will reverberate in Tamil Nadu.
