Guwahati: Radical Islamist organisation PFI is behind the arson of Batadrava police station by a mob on May 21, said Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday (June 1) in Guwahati.

Addressing the media at state BJP headquarter, Dr Sarma said police, in their investigation, found the involvement of PFI in the Batadrava police station arson case. He said that starting from the violent anti-CAA, Gorukhuti eviction violence and the recent arson of Batadrava police station, the investigation has revealed the involvement of PFI in these violent acts. He further added that the Assam government is in the view that PFI and CFI should be banned immediately.

He said that the kind of training programs PFI is conducting and circulating communal literature in districts like Baksa shows how it is openly trying to destabilise Assam. The CM further said that he has met the home minister many times and requested him to ban PFI and CFI. There is much legal scrutiny in banning an organisation, but I hope the government of India will give due consideration to the request made by the Assam government, Dr Sarma added.
