New Delhi: Local residents and civil and police officials in Varanasi have fond memories of President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to the ancient pilgrim city in 2018.

President Kovind is likely to visit Varanasi on June 5 and offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

District officials said as per the initial itinerary, the President is likely to arrive at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport in the afternoon of June 5.

Locals say during his Varanasi visit in March 2018, Mr Kovind had laid the foundation of many major infrastructure projects, including the second phase of the ring road and up gradation of the Varanasi-Hanumana national highway.

The President is likely to leave for Lucknow in the evening.

The police, civil administration and other concerned departments and civic bodies have geared up their preparations for the President’s visit.

President Kovind and his family had visited Varanasi in March 2021 as well and offered prayers at the temple. Mr Kovind also attended the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.
