Guwahati: Amid the tight vigilance of Assam police, cow smuggling gangs are still trying hard to smuggle cows out of the state. The Nagaon police on Thursday night recovered 45 cattle from 4 vehicles and arrested five notorious cow smugglers. Nagaon police, in a midnight drive, seized four suspected vehicles in the Rupahihat area.
The police team recovered 45 cattles from the vehicles and arrested Jainal Abedin, Ruhul Amin, Shirajul Haque, Wahidul Islam and Ashadul Haque for smuggling cattles. The arrested smugglers confessed that they were transporting the cattle from Dhubri district of Assam to smuggle it to Bangladesh.
Earlier on 8th May evening, based on secret information, Jakhalabandha police in Nagaon district intercepted one vehicle at the Amguri Chang area, recovered 9 cattle heads, and apprehended four cattle smugglers. The smugglers were in another car following the vehicle carrying the smuggled cattles.
Arrested smugglers were Nazrul Islam, Md. Saddam Hussain, Md. Faizul Islam and Md. Anuwar Hussain. It should be mentioned that Assam police has arrested 1001 cow smugglers in the last several months and recovered more than 5000 cattles. Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that cow smuggling is a Rupees 800 crore per annum illegal business and many international players, including Muslim terrorists and Jihadist organisations, are involved in it.
