Guwahati: Assam government will hand over the Jihadi module cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), said CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. He said the Assam police, in its investigation, found that the Jihadi networks active in the state have external linkage.
Most of the jihadi modules busted by the police in Assam are linked with terror organisations based in Bangladesh. So the matter needs to be thoroughly investigated. The Assam government has decided to hand over the case to the NIA. But we are waiting for the nod of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, said CM Sarma.
It should be mentioned that Home Minister Amit Shah will be in Assam for three days visit from 8th May to join the one-year completion program of the Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma led BJP Government. CM Sarma said he and top-level Assam police officials would discuss the matter with the Home Minister in detail.
Recently Assam police busted a Jihadi network active in Lower Assam districts of Barpeta and Bongaigaon. Police arrested 16 jihadis, including the mastermind Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid alias Mohammad Suman, a Bangladeshi national. Harun Rashid is a member of Ansar Al-Islam, known as the Bangladesh chapter of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). This group is trying to motivate Muslim youth in Assam to join the jihadi network.
On PFI activities in Assam, the Chief Minister further reiterated his demand to ban the organisation for its involvement in various anti-national activities.
