Guwahati: Assam police, in a series of offensive actions against illegal cow smuggling, arrested 17 wanted cow smugglers and recovered 227 cattle heads from Nagaon, Sonitpur and Biswanath Chariali districts. Nagaon police on Sunday night recovered 77 cattle heads from three vehicles and arrested six smugglers.
Based on source information, Bagori Police under the Jakhalabandha Police station apprehended six cattle smugglers illegally transporting cattle from Bihora Market to Rupahihat, Muwamari, Samaguri and seized 77 cattle heads along with three vehicles. Arrested cow smugglers are Md. Jainuddin Haque, Md. Safiqul Islam, Md. Ashadul Islam, Md. Mujamil Haque, Md. Abdul Kalam and Md. Ashraful Alam.
In another operation, Nagaon police recovered 32 Cattle heads from 3 Vehicles and arrested 4 Cattle Smugglers.
Based on input received on Sunday morning, Sub Inspector Jyoti Boro apprehended two cattle smugglers illegally transporting cattle from Dibrugarh to Byrnihat and seized 22 cattle heads and one twelve wheeler truck.
Further, another two accused persons illegally transporting cattle from Bihora Market to Rupahihat were apprehended, and another ten cattle heads were seized along with two Pickup vans in the Bagori area near Kaziranga. Arrested smugglers are Md. Nekibur Rahman, Md. Rajibul Islam, Md. Abdul Karim and Md Abdul Aziz.
In another offensive against Cattle Smuggling, Biswanath Chariali police intercepted four pickup vans on Saturday. The vehicles were carrying 53 numbers of Cattle without having legal documents. Accordingly, a case has been registered vide Gohpur Police station, and seven persons have been arrested in this connection with the illegal cow trade. Arrested smugglers are Md. Mohidul Islam, Md. Sabed Ali, Md. Khusket Ali, Md. Rafiqul Islam and Md. Sahidul Islam. Police also arrested two truck drivers, Bikash Gogoi and Purna Gogoi.
On Sunday, a team of Sonitpur Police led by Simanta Pathak IC Borghat outpost detained two trucks containing 57 cattle. Police arrested five cow smugglers. Arrested smugglers are Sadam Hussain, Rahman Ali, Salam Ali, Sahed Ali and Safiqul Islam. These cattle were brought from Silapathar in the Dhemaji district and were supposed to be supplied at Byrnihat, Meghalaya.
It should be mentioned that cow smuggling is a thousand crore trade in Assam, mostly run by Muslim criminals, and part of the money earned from cow smuggling goes to jihadi funding, which was revealed by the DGP of Assam police recently.
