Close on the heels of attacks on Ram Navami processions across the country, Islamists Mounted an onslaught on Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on April 16. Home to illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Jahangirpuri has a sizable number of illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants. Armed with firearms and machetes, the arsonists showered from the terraces of their houses, stones and Molotov cocktails on the hapless Hindu devotees who were undertaking a peaceful shobha yatra.
There’s more to it than meets the eye. The violence was not a spontaneous response of a community enraged over something. There are deep cultural and civilisational issues which cannot be swept under the carpet. The planning for the riot was made much in advance: stones and boulders were hoarded on housetops days before. Islamists also fired bullets on policemen; looted and burnt houses and shops owned by Hindus. Predictably, a section of the media jumped the gun and portrayed the key conspirator, Muhammad Ansar, as a Good Samaritan and pushed the fake narrative that Hindu devotees started the violence. Even that was part of a conspiracy. Taking a cue from their counterparts, international media amplified the lie.
Although the cacophony of the Left-Liberal cabal got traction initially, skeletons tumbling out of the Islamists’ cupboards reveal a deep-rooted conspiracy of anti-Bharat forces to engineer communal violence and chaos in the country.
The Delhi Riots 2.0 has exposed our vulnerabilities and such situations could snowball into major internal and external security nightmares if strong and timely remedial actions are not taken. We cannot allow pockets of dissidence and separatism to flourish and rip apart our society. We should not allow forces that preach weakening and Balkanisation of Bharat to carry on with their agenda. The Jahangirpuri violence is a wake-up call.
On April 16, a peaceful procession taken out by the Hindu community on the occasion of Hanuman Janma Utsav in Jahangirpuri was fired upon, pelted with stones, and attacked with machetes and sharp weapons by Islamists. This onslaught was carried out without any provocation by the processionists. Muslim mobs armed with iron rods and stones ransacked houses and shops owned by Hindus. Radical elements attacked police and many men in uniform received bullet injuries. This ensured that an atmosphere of panic was created in the entire Jahangirpuri.
The police arrested several criminals including one of the key conspirators Mohammad Ansar, a scrap dealer and a history-sheeter. Interestingly, after he was arrested the secular lobby led by NDTV tried to spread fake news that he was a Good Samaritan who was preventing the riots. Later, the police investigation found that he along with his accomplices had started the attack. The epicentre of the riot was C-Block of Jahangirpuri where Muslims are in a majority. All those people arrested are residents of C-Block.
To ascertain this fact, a team from Organiser talked to locals from all areas of Jahangirpuri where riots had occurred. They corroborated that Ansar had a criminal record who cocked a snook at the administration by displaying his extravagant lifestyle by posing with BMW and wearing a gold chain.
Masjid as Storehouse of Stones
The communal conflagration occurred in Kushal Chowk of Jahangirpuri, Jama Masjid of Jahangirpuri, C-Block, H-Block and G-Block. It all started when the procession was taken out on April 16. There was heavy stone- pelting from the roof of Jama Masjid mosque and Muslim-dominated areas in this area. Eight rounds of bullets were fired by Islamists. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police, which is investigating this riot, is trying to ascertain how they got access to weapons, particularly bullets. Senior crime branch officers took stock of the entire area. Police have so far managed to arrest 25 accused in this case. Two minor boys were also taken into custody. Eight policemen and one civilian have been injured in the violence.
From the videos aired on social media, it becomes crystal clear that the violence was orchestrated by Islamists who were well-armed. It clearly establishes how the procession was attacked from the top of mosques and houses with Molotov cocktails and glass bottles.
In the Muslim-dominated area, a large number of people are engaged in scrap work on the road leading to Kushal Chowk. From these shops, glass bottles were bought by members of the Muslim community a day before the procession. They filled these bottles with petrol and kept them on the roofs of their homes. These bottles were thrown at the processionists.
Surprisingly, two processions were taken out in this area on that day. But they were not targeted in any way. However, the third procession was attacked when it reached near the mosque built near Kushal Chowk. It was around 6:00 pm. A very small number of youth took part in this yatra. The arrangement of police was also not adequate. This was the reason why this yatra was targeted by the Islamists under a well-planned conspiracy.
Home to Rohingyas
A section of the media tried to spread a canard that the riot started after Hindu devotees tried to hoist a saffron flag atop the Jama Masjid. The lie was busted by the police as well as a Muslim cleric who was a witness to the procession and the attack that ensued. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana denied the involvement of the Hindu community. He categorically said no such incident of flag hoisting had taken place. What the media had not mentioned was the area is home to Rohingya Muslims also. Rohingyas have been involved in many terrorist incidents and riots in Delhi in the past. The police now only need to probe the role of Rohingyas in the Jahangirpuri riots.
Meanwhile, several Muslim youths were arrested by the police for pelting stones and firing on the Shobha Yatra. Two minors have also been taken into custody in this riot, who pelted stones and created arson. Basically, Muslim fundamentalists have been brainwashing the youth of Jahangirpuri in order to make them believe that violence in the name of Jihad was the only way to dominate peaceful Hindu community, particularly those who participate in yatras.
As a result of this, the role of minor Muslim youths is coming to the fore in this violence of Jahangirpuri. Along with spreading violence, they also carried out looting throughout Jahangirpuri. Several people shared their stories on how their shops were looted during the violence. Through these riots, Islamists were trying to shake the whole of Delhi. During the Shobha Yatra also, the Delhi Police was the biggest target of these fundamentalists. The intention of the rioters was to drive the police out of the area first and then carry out violence against the majority community.
‘Criminals who spread violence in Jahangirpuri had occupied Government land. When the administration broke illegal constructions. Dushyant Dave and Kapil Sibal, a helpful pair of jihadis, came forward to
save them’ — Vinod Bansal, VHP Spokesperson
The police disclosed seven cases under various sections have been registered against Mohammad Ansar, the mastermind. Apart from this, his name is notorious for being a panic attack in this entire area. The people of the area revealed Ansar’s involvement in gambling, betting and chain snatching in this area as well as in other areas of Delhi.
According to Delhi Police, the main accused of Jahangirpuri violence is Ansar. Apart from him, the police have also arrested Sonu Chikna alias Yasin Imam, for firing on the procession of Hanuman devotees. Both of them lived in the Haldia area of West Bengal. But, 10 to 12 years ago, their families shifted to Delhi.
The NDTV’s portrayal of Ansar as a Good Samaritan did not much ice after skeletons tumbled out of his cupboard. The history-sheeter owned a BMW car and made crores through extortion. He used to be active in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). It is common knowledge that Ansar owns property worth crores and has cordial relations with senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party. He is even seen wearing AAP’s cap. Local residents disclosed that he has scrap work in Jahangirpuri. The photographs of Ansar adorned with gold-chains had become viral on social media. What annoyed many was his ‘Pushpa act’ – mimicking the hero of the South Indian film Pushpa.
The participation of the leaders of the AAP was clearly visible in the Delhi riots of 2020. AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain was the mastermind of those riots. What is becoming clear from all these riots is that undesirable elements from the Muslim community, who want to disturb peace and communal fabric of the country, are joining the Aam Aadmi Party.
Mangal Bazar Chowk is just 100 metres away from the place of incident. Kamal, who works as a mechanic at this chowk, told Organiser, “The violence took place in evening hours between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Stones and petrol bombs were used in large numbers by miscreants who were by neighbours, in this violence.”
Seeing such an orchestrated attack all of a sudden, Kamal got scared for his life. He immediately swung into action by putting most of his belongings in his rickshaw and headed towards home. Next day, he returned to his shop and opened it at 11 a.m. in the morning even though he had genuine fear that it might be attacked.
Summing up, Lakshmi Shankar Shukla, vice-president BJP Aadarsh Nagar Mandal, said, “This entire attack was done under a well-planned conspiracy. The yatra was brutally attacked by Muslims in which seven Hanuman devotees participating in the yatra received injuries.”
Meanwhile, residents of Jahangirpuri C-Block 600 Wali Gali are of the view that Hanuman Janma Utsav has been attacked by Muslims as part of a well-planned conspiracy. The women alleged that the rioters threw stones outside their houses as well, besides pointing out that Hindus never resort to violence on Muslim festivals. But then why such violent attacks are carried out by Islamists on festivals of Hindus?
Rajesh Kumar, who runs Aggarwal Medicos Shop in H-Block of Jahangirpuri, revealed that rioters stole ₹ 30,000 from his shop. Rakesh, who lives in G-Block of Jahangirpuri, has made sensational revelations. “Stones and petrol bombs were pelted on the procession from the Jama Masjid mosque in Jahangirpuri,” he said.
Demand for Punishing Rioters
Vijay Hindustani, a seer who had come from Shamli, demanded that the Government needs to take a strong action against the Islamists, who acted in a criminal manner while attacking the peaceful yatra. He demanded that property of miscreants should be destroyed as had been done in Madhya Pradesh.
Pointing out that Rohingyas should be kept out of Delhi, Vijay Hindustani said, “The State Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should be held responsible for settling these illegal immigrants in various localities in Delhi.”
The seer disclosed that Rohingyas have been given a free hand to get land and build houses at Jahangirpuri. “The need of the hour is that the Centre should impose President’s rule in Delhi.”
I have never seen a political party in India which is more communal than the Congress party. There’s no difference at all between the Congress party and Muslim League or Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen
— Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Law and Justice
The riots of Jahangirpuri will always remain in the history of Delhi. They once again reaffirm the fact that Hindu festivals are on the radar of Muslim community.
What is shocking is that Mohammad Ansar has been given a clean chit by Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
Defending prime accused Ansar’s role in riots, Owaisi claimed that ‘selective action’ was being undertaken by the Delhi Police. “That kid Ansar is being arrested. It is a selective arrest and action. I am saying this openly. Delhi police are doing selective action. Ansar is not the accused, he has controlled the mob. Media channels are showing selective things,” Owaisi claimed.
Rohingyas in Jahangirpuri
Delhi BJP leaders descrites attack on Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri as a “conspiracy” and demanded that a probe into the role of “illegal immigrants” in the incident be initiated. Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta and MP Manoj Tiwari said the attack on the procession was not a spontaneous incident, but a conspiracy. Delhi BJP president has also questioned how the settlement of Rohingyas living illegally in Delhi and how they bave been provided water and electricity connections.
In a video message, Gupta said he wants to ask Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal why he is providing water and electricity to Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in the city. North East Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari in a tweet called illegal migrants a big threat and said it needs to be investigated as to how they are spoiling the harmony of our nation.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC), there are 1,000 Rohingya refugees registered in Delhi. These figures are official, although the actual figure may be higher. In Delhi, they mostly work as labourers. After looking for employment opportunities as a migrants, they have started settling here.
Brought Down illegal encroachment
After stone pelting on the procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the team of Municipal Corporation in Jahangirpuri took action on encroachments. During this, the administration brought down the illegal encroachment. Most of the illegal occupations on which action has been taken are said to be of the perpetrators of the Jahangirpuri violence. A large number of Muslims have illegally occupied this entire area. Before removing the illegal encroachment, the administration had informed the people. A huge police force was deployed on the occasion to control the situation.
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat came with an order from the Supreme Court to stop the encroachment campaign being run in Jahangirpuri and this action had to be stopped. Intruders have also occupied the park in front of Kushal Cinema. Local residents say that most of the people here are Muslims, some of them are also Rohingya Muslims. Who are living here from Bangladesh. Some local people told that when the people here are thoroughly investigated, then it will be known how many Bangladeshi Rohingya Muslims are living here.
