New Delhi: President of the European Commission, Ms Ursula von der Leyen, will be on an official visit to India on April 24 and 25. This will be her first visit to India as the President of the European Commission. She will address the inaugural session on the Raisina Dialogue on April 25 in New Delhi.

During her visit, the President of the European Commission will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The much talked about and critical Russia-Ukraine conflict will figure prominently during her talks with Indian leaders, including the Prime Minister.

Several countries, including the EU, which has imposed stringent sanctions on Russia, have been urging India to take a stronger stand against Russia.

Recently, NATO members also met in Brussels to draw out a plan of sending more weapons to Ukraine.

She will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind and other dignitaries, the MEA release said.

The President of the European Commission has been invited as the Chief Guest for this year’s edition of the Raisina Dialogue.

“India and the European Union share a vibrant Strategic Partnership which has been witnessing strong growth with wider and deeper co-operation in Political and Strategic, Trade and Commerce, Climate and Sustainability, Digital and Technology aspects as well as people-to-people ties,” the MEA said.

The India-EU Leaders’ Meeting in May 2021 set new milestones with the decision to resume trade talks and the launch of the India-EU Connectivity Partnership.

The forthcoming visit of the President of the European Commission will be an opportunity to review progress and further intensify the multifaceted partnership with the EU, the MEA release said.

The EU-India trade in goods over the last decade has gone up by 41 per cent, and the trade-in services is near 76 per cent.
