Guwahati: Three most wanted dacoits were gunned down by Assam police in Goalpara district. Assam police, in operation on Friday (April 1), gunned down the most wanted criminals, namely Sujal Haque, Nazmul Haque and Sahjahan Ali.

On a confirmed tipoff, Goalpara police, headed by Additional SP Mrinal Deka, intercepted a vehicle on the national highway. The three killed criminals were in the vehicle. They were planning to rob a truck carrying dry areca nuts. The police team tried to stop the vehicle driven by the dacoits. But in Tukura, the dacoit team opened fire on the police team and tried to flee. The police killed the three robbers in a counterfire.

Goalpara Additional SP Mrinal Deka told the media that the three dead robbers were most wanted, and several cases of robbery, kidnapping and extortion were registered against them.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said there is no escape for criminals in the state. Reacting to the allegations of fake encounters by opposition parties, CM Sarma said there should be such debates on so-called encounters so that the matter gets publicity. Criminals should come to know that police action will continue against criminals like rapists, murderers, dacoits, drug peddlers, etc.
