The BJP government in Assam has successfully curbed the poaching of one horn rhinos since it came to power in the state in 2016.
Guwahati: Very good news for the animal lovers from Kaziranga national park. The world heritage site Kaziranga registered 210 more Rhinos compared to 2018. The rhino census was done in the national park from 25th to 28 March. 64 enumerators, 12 independent observers and 49 media persons were involved in the rhino census.
In 2018, their number was 2413, which increased to 2623 in the latest census undertaken. 50 numbers of elephants were engaged in the census. The entire national park was divided into 84 compartments for the rhino census. 250 forest guards and officials took part in the census. Kaziranga national park director Jatindra Nath Sharma informed that they found 146 calves aged 0 to 1 years and 279 juveniles aged 1 to 3 years in the census. There are 1823 adult and 365 sub-adult rhinoceros found in the census conducted in Kaziranga national park.
During the 15 years long tenure of the Congress government, the poachers killed several hundred rhinos. The BJP government in Assam has successfully curbed the poaching of one horn rhinos since it came to power in the state in 2016. Last year, only one rhino poaching incident was registered in the state. The state government has deployed police commandos in the national park to secure precious animals.
