Palakkad: Arun Kumar, a 28-year-old BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha) worker, was hacked to death in Palakkad. He was brutally attacked by a group of CPM-DYFI goons during a temple festival a few days ago. He succumbed to injuries in a private hospital in Palakkad on Friday.

The BJP Palakkad district leadership said that it was a pre-planned murder. The party called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the Alathur Taluk and two panchayats-Peringottukurissi and Kottayi on Saturday in protest against the CPM’s murder politics.

Arun Kumar was stabbed by DYFI goons on March 2. He along with other BJYM workers had organised a protest march in the village against ‘heinous Malappuram rape’ wherein a mentally challenged girl was brutally raped in front of the bed-ridden mother. CPM-DYFI workers had destroyed flags and posters which were put up by Yuva Morcha activists as part of the protest.

Following the attack, the police had arrested two DYFI workers in connection with the incident. The Police said that so far six people have been arrested in the case. One of the accused is an office-bearer of DYFI, youth-wing of CPM.
