Modi government has started the humongous task of evacuating Indian nationals from Ukraine after Russia announced the military operation in Ukraine on February 24.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine. From the very beginning, the Modi government has started evacuating Indian nationals from Ukraine.

Termed Operation Ganga, more than 80 flights of Indian Air Force, Air India, Indigo, Spice Jet, Vistara and others have been pressed into action to bring back Indian nationals safely.

About 20000 Indian nationals were stranded in Ukraine, and more than 17000 have been evacuated safely till now. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has deputed four Union ministers in neighbouring countries of Ukraine to facilitate the smooth evacuation of stranded nationals.

Congress, Rahul Gandhi and NDTV used a Congress leader’s daughter on Thursday (March 3) to attack the Modi government.

Uttarakhand Congress leader Sumitra Kumari Yadav’s daughter Vishakha Yadav told an NDTV reporter that the Union government is providing flights from Romania and Poland, but not from Ukraine, so it should not be called evacuation.

Posting that video clip of Vishakha Yadav, Rahul Gandhi said, “Evacuation is a Duty, not a Favour.”

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala shared the same video saying, “This brave daughter of India has exposed “Fake PR” of Modi Govt! As PM, Home Min & Defense Min were busy in election rallies, this was the harrowing experience of our children in Ukraine. Do listen.”

On Wednesday (March 2), Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephonic conversation in which PM Modi pressed about the safety of the Indian nationals.

In a statement after the phone call, the prime minister’s office said, “The leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, especially in the city of Kharkiv where many Indian students are stuck. They discussed the safe evacuation of the Indian nationals from the conflict areas.”

On February 24, Vaishali Yadav, a medical student from Ukraine, put out an emotional post seeking help to return home to Uttar Pradesh. Eventually, it turned out that she is the Gram Pradhan of Tera Pursauli in Uttar Pradesh and is the daughter of Samajwadi Party leader Mahendra Singh Yadav. She was elected the Gram Pradhan last year.

On Wednesday (March 2), the advancing Russian forces had halted the advance for a few hours to facilitate the evacuation of Indian nationals.

In a significant development on Thursday (March 3) night, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address that Ukraine had held hostage more than 3000 Indian students.

On Wednesday (March 2), the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry had said some Indian students were held hostage by Ukraine and were being used as human shields.
