Shillong: Big boost for the BJP in Meghalaya in the Garo Hills region. Former West Garo Hills MLA and Garo Hills Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) Edmund K Sangma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (March 2) evening. After joining BJP, Sangma said, the national party's presence can bring a difference in the Garo Hills. "I choose to join hands with BJP," he added.

Edmund Sangma's joining will help the party set up its base in the Garo Hills region. CM Conrad Sangma belongs to the Garo Hills region, as his party NPP has a strong base there.

Sangma joined the BJP in the presence of state unit President Ernest Mawrie and other senior leaders at the BJP office in Shillong.
After joining the party, Sangma also said the overall performance of the Conrad Sangma government is quite poor and will be a big challenge for them in the next elections in 2023. BJP is fighting against the NPP in the Manipur election.

Meanwhile, expressing elation, state BJP President Ernest Mawrie, while addressing reporters after the joining ceremony, said Edmund K Sangma's joining will strengthen the party and increase its outreach.
