Kishan Boliya was murdered by Sabbir and Imtiaz Pathan in Gujarat on January 25 over a Facebook post. Muslim clerics Maulana Mohammad Ayub and Maulvi Qamar Ghani Usmani are accused of plotting the murder and providing weapons.

In a big breakthrough in the Kishan Boliya murder case, the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) Sunday (January 30) arrested cleric Maulvi Qamar Ghani Usmani from Delhi.

Kishan Boliya, 27, was shot dead by Sabbir and Imtiaz Pathan over a Facebook post on January 25 in Dhandhuka in Ahmedabad Rural, Gujarat.

ATS Superintendent of Police SP Imtiaz Shaikh told reporters that Sabbir, who had shot dead Boliya, was in touch with Usmani through social media platform Instagram. He also said the arrested cleric Usmani ran a social organisation and instigated youth from the Muslim community to take action against those who insult Prophet Mohammad.

The ATS also revealed that he is the same Qamar Ghani Usmani who runs TFI (Tahreek Farogh-e-Islam) in Delhi’s Okhla. The police suspect he is also involved in large-scale conversion activities. Maulavi Qamar was also arrested in connection with the Tripura riots last year.

The UP ATS had busted gangs involved in large-scale conversion activities in Delhi’s Okhla last year. The gang was also facilitating the illegal entry of Rohingya from Bangladesh and arranging documents for the illegal immigrants.

Boliya had posted a Facebook post on January 6, which Sabbir and Imtiyaz alleged was blasphemous. A police case was also registered in the case. Sabbir and Imtiyaz, with the help of two Maulanas, had started plotting the murder of Boliya. Young Kishan Boliya was just blessed with fatherhood 20 days back.

“The deceased had posted a Facebook update on January 6, 2022, in which he had written objectionable comments against a religion. An FIR was lodged against Kishan then at the Dhandhuka police station after a complaint. After Kishan received bail, the duo (Sabbir and Imtiyaz) made up their mind to kill him and were provided with the gun and ammunition by the Maulana,” a senior police official in Ahmedabad had said.

Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi assured speedy justice in the case. Ministers Harsh Sanghavi and Kiritsinh Rana had visited the family members of Boliya on Friday (January 28) and assured the family that all accused would be arrested soon.

“After Kishan was murdered, the Ahmedabad police formed separate teams and nabbed the accused within 24 hours. The state government is monitoring the case and is actively working to ensure justice to Kishan…In order to ensure that this case is investigated appropriately, Gujarat ATS and Ahmedabad Crime Branch have been investigating the case from different angles. The government will hire the best lawyer in the state and murders of Kishan will be punished,” state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi had said.

The investigation in the case was handed over to the ATS on Saturday (January 30). The murder of Kishan had sent shock waves not just in Gujarat but the entire country.
