Guwahati: Dimasa tribal language film "Semkhor" received the "Special Audience Award" at the just concluded 20th Dhaka International Film Festival held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Sunday. The Dimasa film, produced, directed and acted by noted Assamese actress Aimee Baruah has earned many national and international awards. 

Speaking about the latest feather on its cap, Director cum Actress Aimee Baruah said, "I would like to express my gratitude, love and regards to all the well-wishers in Northeast, Assam and all those associated with Semkhor."

It is to be mentioned that the 20th Dhaka International Film Festival began in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The festival showcased 225 films from 70 countries under 10 categories that were screened across various venues in Dhaka from 15 to 23 January 2022. 

Aimee Baruah also achieved a big milestone by winning three awards at the Tagore International Film Festival. Aimee's film 'Semkhor' won three awards, in three different categories, in Tagore International Film Festival, Kolkata. 'Semkhor', a Dimasa film, was directed by Baruah. She also played the protagonist role in the film. The film won the 'Best Narrative', 'Best Women Film' and 'Best Debut Film Maker' awards.

Actress Aimee Baruah also won the 'Best Actress Award' at Toronto International Women Film Festival (TIWFF) for her film 'Semkhor'. Toronto International Women Film Festival celebrates and recognizes films made by talented female filmmakers from all over the world. The festival is an IMDB qualifying monthly and annual festival. It focuses on female-driven stories, independent female directors, producers, writers, actresses, cinematographers, editors, and all-female artists contributing to the language of cinema as women in film.
