PRAYAGRAJ: According to police, a woman officer with the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) in Prayagraj has filed a case against her husband, accusing him of divorcing her via WhatsApp message. She also claimed that the man threatened her when she objected.
Anurag Sharma, station house officer at Kareli police station, stated that a case had been registered on the basis of the complaint under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. Further investigation was being conducted in this regard, he added.
According to reports, the woman is a resident of Kareli's Gaus Nagar area and works as a review officer at UPPSC. In 2018, she married Mohd Aslam of the Ballia district. Later, the woman claimed that her husband and in-laws were harassing her for dowry and filed an FIR with the Kareli police station.
In her most recent complaint, filed on Monday, she claimed that Aslam sent her a divorce decree via WhatsApp and said that he was now leaving the country. The woman called her husband to express her displeasure, but he responded with threats.
