A video of celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib had gone viral in which he could be seen spitting on the head of the lady whose hair he was working on.

New Delhi: Summoned by the National Commission for Women, hairstylist Jawed Habib appeared before the Commission on Tuesday (January 11) and submitted a written apology for spitting on a woman's head while styling her hair.

"NCW held a hearing today. Habib appeared before NCW and stated that he didn't intend to hurt or disrespect anyone and submitted a written apology. NCW also directed him to ensure that such a thing is not repeated," the commission said in a message on the microblogging site Twitter.

The video of the incident that went viral reportedly took place in Muzzafarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

"NCW had earlier written to the Director-General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, to take action in the matter," the NCW said.

On January 6, taking to Twitter, the women's commission had said: "NCW India has taken cognizance of the incident. Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to DGP UP to immediately investigate the veracity of this viral video and take appropriate action. The action taken must be apprised to the commission at the earliest."

In a seminar about a haircut in Muzaffarnagar, Habib called Pooja on the stage. He spits on her head while demonstrating the hairstyling.

The victim Pooja released a video in which she said Habib humiliated her and said she only runs a beauty parlour, but he runs more than 900 outlets.

“Jawed Habib called me on the stage and misbehaved with me. He spat in my hair in front of hundreds who laughed and enjoyed his act. He was asking the attendees to make use of saliva when there’s no water available during a haircut”, she said. In the viral video, Habib could be heard saying, “Mere Thook mein jaan hai (There is power in this spit)”.
