An out of the box experiment was conducted for 10 GB internet connectivity from the Coxbazar international landing station (Bangladesh) to Agartala through BSNL, which has been extremely successful and would be further extended by NFR.

Guwahati: During his visit to Guwahati on Tuesday (January 4), Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw held a brief discussion with the top officials of North Frontier Railway (NFR).

The minister set a 9 points agenda to fulfil the PM's vision of connectivity in the entire Northeast region. A statement issued by NFR said, "As per the discussions, NFR will work to pursue the set goals by the ministry in the region. As of now, electrification of railway track has been completed up to Guwahati. Further work for electrification is in progress."

Five Vistadome services have already been introduced to promote tourism in the Northeast. Union Minister Vaishnaw discussed these proposals with the Minister of Tourism, Govt of India and C.M. Patowari, Minister transport, Industries & Commerce, Govt of Assam.

A thorough study is being done to introduce more passenger, Intercity and Janshatabdi like trains in Northeastern states like Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Mizoram.

Work is on for the provision of high-speed internet in the entire Northeast. An out of the box experiment was conducted for 10 GB internet connectivity from the Coxbazar international landing station (Bangladesh) to Agartala through BSNL, which has been extremely successful and would be further extended by NFR.

The Railway ministry is working on PM Modi's vision of providing digital telecom connectivity to every village in the Northeast. Scientific survey and GIS mapping are on to identify locations for telecom connectivity in every village.

Studies are being conducted to establish strategic lines through alternate routes to highlight the Northeast's beauty. The central government allocated Rs.7,000 crores for ongoing railway projects in the Northeast this financial year. There will be no shortage of funds, and NFR is working towards achieving these goals keeping in mind the PM's vision of "Sabka sath, sabka vikas, sabka biswas, sabka prayas". It's a combined effort of all stakeholders, including the state government. Remodelling of Kamakhya station will solve the existing traffic jam problem around the station. Rail minister Vaishnaw and Manipur chief minister N Biren Sing did an aerial survey of the ongoing 111-kilometre Jiribam-Imphal rail line project in the state on Wednesday morning.
