Mohammed Sharief Siddique was arrested after VHP’s intervention for sexually assaulting a Christian woman.
The Mangaluru police arrested 49-year-old Mohammed Sharief Siddique for sexually assaulting a 27-year-old Christian woman. After the police did not take any action on the victim’s mother complaint, she had approached the VHP.
In the letter, which went viral on social media, the victim’s mother had written that her community leaders and police were not helping. After VHP’s intervention, the Surathkal police in Mangaluru registered a case under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested Siddique.
Siddique was sent to14 days of judicial custody.
The victim’s mother said that Siddique was harassing her daughter for over four years and was also giving the victim sedatives. Siddique has also been accused of sexually assaulting three other women. Police are also looking into these allegations.
