In a post which has raised many eyebrows, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said that Hindus are the greatest danger to Indian society. It has also listed upper castes and men as other greatest dangers to society.
The post was put out by West Bengal CPM head Surjya Kanta Mishra on Monday (December 27).
After ruling Bengal continuously from 1977-2011, the CPM drew a blank in 2012 West Bengal assembly elections. The CPM stalwart Jyoti Basu was the chief minister from 1977-2000 and then another CPM stalwart Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee took over from him.
Surjya Kanta Mishra, who is heading the CPM in West Bengal since 2015, is all three: Hindu, Upper Caste and Man.
Journalist Abhijit Majumder called the CPM’s post bordering on “clinical delusion”. He said, “CPM’s FB post borders on clinical delusion.
* CPM leadership has been predominantly upper-class, educated Hindu men. Not easy to pass the ‘godless’ test.
* Its general secretaries — EMS to Yechury (except Surjeet) — have been upper-caste men.
* So are all CMs except Dasarath Deb.”
“CPM says men are a danger to society. Which is why:
* CPM never had a woman general secretary.
* Nor a woman CM.
* Its deity, champion of the proletariat Karl Marx, never paid his maid Helen Demuth a single penny, had sex (likely without consent), never owned up to their child”, Shri Majumder added.
The CPM never had a female general secretary nor a female chief minister. It has two female politburo members Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali Sehgal. Both come from very privileged backgrounds.
In its more than 50 years of existence, CPM has not been able to give leadership position to a Dalit. And they have repeatedly avoided answering why no Dalit has found a place of prominence in the CPM.
In 2015, when a journalist had asked then CPM head why Dalits never found a place of leadership in Politburo and Central Committee, two top decision-making bodies of the CPM, he came up with a very evasive reply “You ask me this question on April 19 when the new politburo and central committee is in place.”
In the new Politburo and Central Committee in 2015, no Dalit could make it to the top. Even in the party hierarchy, most of the leadership roles go to the upper caste men.
