8th Karmayogi Award 2021 conferred on Tripura’s Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma

His priceless work for humanity is a source of inspiration for everyone” said My Home India founder and BJP’s National Secretary Sunil Deodhar at Vigyan Bhawan on December 19.

My Home India, a national non-government organisation which seeks to bring an emotional integration between the people from different parts of the country, has conferred the prestigious 8th Swami Vivekananda Karmayogi Award 2021 on Tripura’s eminent tribal religious leader and social activist Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma on December 19 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Swami Debbarma was honoured with the Karmayogi Award by the General Secretary of Ganga Mahasabha Swami Jitendranand Saraswati. A cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh was also given to him by the chairman of Saraswat Co-operative Bank, Shri Gautam E Thakur.

Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma, the recipient of the Karmayogi Award, is a sanyasi and has been associated with Shantikali Ashram in Tripura for a long time. Born on January 22, 1962, in Barkathal (Tripura), Debbarma entered the service as Panchayat Secretary after his formal education. While being the Panchayat Secretary, he got an opportunity to meet Swami Kali ji on a journey and became his disciple after being influenced by his life principles. The militants assassinated Swami Kali. After which Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma took charge of the ashram.

For the past several decades, Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma has made immense contributions towards tribal welfare, social upliftment, education, health, organic agriculture, tailoring, skill development in remote and tribal areas of Tripura.

Pointing out the situation of Tripura before 2018, Sunil Deodhar said that, Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma lived a life full of threats. He has been working tirelessly for over 20 years for consolidation of the Sanatan Dharma. Swamiji has been fighting against conversion and Christian missionaries irrespective of death threats from National Liberation Front of Tripura (NFLT), an extremist organisation.

“He is continuously transforming the lives of marginalised and tribal people in the remote areas of Tripura”, said Sunil Deodhar.

Expressing concern over the agenda of Christian missionaries to convert Hindus, Sunil Dheodhar made it clear that Bharat won’t accept conversion.

Sunil Deodhar also had words of praise for the initiatives undertaken by My Home India’s ‘Sapnon Se Apno tak’, a flagship project in which it works towards reuniting separated families by making efforts in tracing parents of children lost or living in child care institutions. “Since its inception, the organisation has reunited more than 2,700 children with their families in 21 States. This includes 545 girls and 2,100 boys, six differently-abled children, 65 children from Nepal and 4 from Bangladesh.

Every year, Swami Vivekananda Smriti Karmayogi Award is conferred upon individuals working for the betterment of society. The award was conferred for the first time in 2013. Karmayogi Award is presented to the personalities from the Northeast who dedicate their lives to the Nation and promotes nationalism through art, culture, sports, education and other arenas.

In his thanksgiving speech, Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma said that this award has come his way due to the efforts of his Guru Swami Shanti Kaliji Maharaj, who inspired him and many others to work for the upliftment of Sanatan Dharma and tribal community.

He added that Swami Shanti Kaliji Maharaj expanded the activities of Ashram and worked in the field of education, tribal welfare, organic farming, tailoring, etc.

Swami Kaliji Maharaj was murdered by the Communists, after which Swami Debbarma took charge of the Ashram.

He also appreciated Sunil Deodhar for his contribution to the betterment of the people of the Northeast and spreading Hindu civilisation in the region and said, “Just like Bhagwan Krishna defeated Kauravas, Sunil Deodhar has vanished communist regime from Tripura”.

Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju also lauded My Home India’s initiative to honour the welfare of the underprivileged in the North East in their video messages.

Congratulating Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Swamiji is a true Karmayogi who has dedicated his life for the education of the poor tribal children of Tripura and inculcating in them traditions and cultural values.

Addressing the gathering, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb recalled the extremism and baneful incidents against RSS and BJP workers by communists and Christian missionaries in Tripura in the last few decades and remembered Chittaranjan Debbarma’s contribution towards humanity.

“Swamiji has dedicated all his life for the education of children of our indigenous communities and has introduced them to cultural and traditional values. I hope he continues to inspire us”, Biplab Deb added.

In a video message, Deputy CM Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma congratulated Swami Chittaranjan Debbarma for his immense contribution to the betterment of the Northeast. He said Swamiji is the correct person for this award; he is a true Karmayogi and a man on a mission with a vision.

Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, General Secretary of Ganga Mahasabha Swami Jitendranand Saraswati and Chairman of Saraswat Co-operative Bank Gautam Thakur were the chief guests of the programme who were present on the dais.
