New Delhi, Dec 17 (India Science Wire): Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India Private Limited (RNTBCI) has launched a scholarship programme to help 100 learners who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, to pursue a BSc in Programming and Data Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras.

The degree course was introduced in 2020 as the first-ever online degree by an IIT, as part of an exercise to democratise high-quality education in India. The programme is designed to cater to candidates from all educational backgrounds. It is offered three times a year and attracts learners from around the world. For admissions to the January 2022 term, the applications portal is open until 21st December 2021. It has multiple entry and exit options to help the students to pursue their studies without any difficulty. Further details about the BSc in Programming and Data Science from IIT Madras can be obtained from https://onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in .

RNTBCI Managing Director, Mr. DebashisNeogi, noted that the importance of data science is evident in almost every aspect of life. “With absolute certainty, we could say that the boundless potential of the students will be harnessed at IIT Madras, developing them into a significant resource for the industry.”

Appreciating the idea behind this scholarship programme, Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator, IIT Madras BSc Program, said, “We have students from various backgrounds who are in need of financial assistance. The scholarships from RNTBCI will help them to achieve their goals, which would have been impossible otherwise.”

Dean (Academic Courses), IIT Madras, Prof.PrathapHaridoss, said, “We now see a growing demand for data science and analytics skills. In the BSc program, we have seen students learn the basics of data science, and working professionals, with years of experience, expand their knowledge. There is a drastic shift in every field from business operations to consumer behaviour which requires expertise in data science. Analytics, data science and programming skills are now essential tools across industries which, in turn, makes our students a valuable resource.”

Located at Mahindra World City, Chennai, Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre India Private Limited (RNTBCI)is a captive automotive technology and business centre supporting Renault and Nissan globally.
