The government has constituted a high-level committee to assess the encroachment status of land belonging to the Satras. Once the committee submits their report to the government, the encroachers will be pulled out of the Satras land, said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Guwahati: The Assam government has identified 16 more places encroached by illegal settlers, mostly migrant Muslims in the states. These are government land, and the illegal settlers have encroached on it for a long. Notice has been served to those people to vacate the government land, or the state government will soon start eviction drives in these places.
For the initial stage, the administration will start eviction drives in Barchala and Dhekiajuli Char (riverine areas). Migrant Muslim encroachers from nearby areas have encroached on the char areas of the Barchala and Dhekiajuli constituencies and changed the demography of these two Hindu majority constituencies. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media that after Dhalpur and Lumding eviction, the government would start eviction drives in Dhekiajuli and Barchala soon. Notice has been served to the encroachers.
The CM earlier said that the migrant Muslims are trying to change the demography of three Hindu majority constituencies by large scale relocation. Thousands of migrant Muslims have relocated to Lumding, Barchala, and Dhekiajuli from Muslim majority districts in the past two decades. These people have their land and property in some other constituencies and still relocated and encroached government land in these three Hindu majority constituencies, hence posing a threat to the political existence of the Hindu people.
On Saturday, (December 11), Dr. Sarma told the media that all these encroachments would be evicted in the next four and a half years during his tenure as the chief minister of Assam. He further mentioned that the government constituted a high-level committee to assess the encroachment status of land belonging to the Satras. Once the committee, headed by senior AGP MLA Pradip Hazarika and BJP MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Rupak Sharma, submits their report to the government, the encroachers will be pulled out of the Satras land. The government of Assam has evicted 7000 acres of land in Dhalpur, Gorukhuti, in September this year, and the evicted land has been converted to an integrated Agri farm engaging thousands of local youth. Likewise, 1400 acres of forest land in Lumding was evicted in November this year, which was encroached by thousands of migrant Muslim families after an order from Guwahati High Court.
