Guwahati: Assam plans for a special voter’s enrolment initiative to include all qualified electorates’ names in the voter’s list. State chief electoral officer Nitin Khade recently announced the special campaign in regards to the ongoing process of special summary revision 2022 for registration of all eligible voters/citizens in the integrated draft electoral roll.
Keeping up with the motto ‘No Voter To Be Left Behind’ and as per direction of the Election Commission of India, the State authority urges all citizens to be a part of the democratic process. The final electoral roll is expected to be published on 5 January 2022 for all the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam.
“Under this initiative, the district electoral officers will organize special camps/ workshops in order to facilitate the eligible citizens, who wish to add their names in the electoral roll. The citizens may approach the booth level officers of their respective polling stations during the campaign to register their names,” said a statement.
The initiative will give the opportunity to a citizen to apply for deletion of a name already included in the electoral roll, to raise objection against inclusion of a name in the list, to request for correction any entry, to change of names from one polling station to another within the same constituency, etc. The citizens have been required to carry their passport size photograph, certificate of ordinary residence and one document of age proof.
Two Bangladeshi killed: At least two citizens of Bangladesh were killed by the Border Security Force on Friday while preventing a cattle’s smuggling bid in Cooch Behar locality. The BSF source claimed that their armed personnel on duty witnessed a group of men trying to smuggle a herd of cattle into Bangladesh.
Initially the BSF personnel asked them to leave the place but when they did not listen the troops used non-lethal ammunition. Soon those men attacked the personnel ‘sensing imminent threat to their life, BSF party fired in air towards miscreants’, a statement said. One soldier was also injured in the incident and he has been admitted into a nearby hospital.
