Guwahati: Assam Rifles recovered a large quantity of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing over 250 kg and other explosives in the Moreh area of Manipur along the Indo-Myanmar border on Monday (November 8).
According to the reports, the security personnel recovered more than 240 pieces of prefabricated IEDs and materials used to make explosives from a jungle area near Betuk village of the Moreh area in the wee hours of Monday. Two bikers were carrying the explosives in three boxes from the Myanmar side of the border. When the security personnel asked them to stop at around 4 am, the miscreants ran towards the border route. Assam rifle jawans followed them. The bikers escaped in the dense jungle, but they threw the boxes.
While carrying out an area search operation along the Indo-Myanmar border, the alert troops of Assam Rifles detected well-concealed boxes hidden inside thick foliage.
While searching the left out boxes, security forces recovered a large number of prefabricated IEDs weighing approximately 250 kg along with a large number of other explosives and warlike stores.
The prefabricated IEDs and other materials were handed over to the Moreh police station.
According to the reports of the Moreh police, 197 suspected IEDs weighing half kg, 33 IED weighing 3 kgs, 9 IEDs weighing 4 kgs were found besides other explosives.
