Guwahati: Commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, organised by the Union government in New Delhi on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Bharat’s freedom, Union Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday launched the campaign of distributing Ayush prophylactic medicines and written guidelines on diet and lifestyle.

Mentionable is that the campaign has been designed to distribute Sanshamani Vati (also known as Guduchi or Giloy Ghan Vati) and Ashwagandha Ghan Vati to 75 lakh families under the AyushAapkeDwar program in the country with a special focus on the senior citizens (60 years and above ages) and the front-line corona workers in the yearlong celebration till August 2022.

Addressing the gathering at the National Institute of Ayurveda in  Jaipur, Union minister Sonowal emphasized the importance of spreading the message of Ayurveda across India so that everyone can adopt it as a part of their lifestyle and achieve the aim of a healthy nation. He also urged the entire Ayurveda fraternity to join hands and work together so that India could lead the world through its ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga.

The kit of Ayush prophylactic medicines and its guidelines have been prepared by the central council for Research in Ayurvedic medicines (CCRAS) and the Ayush ministry has been allotted one week (30 August to 5 September 2021) for the promotion of several activities including the launch of Yoga mobile application, distribution of medicinal plants to farmers & informative papers to students along with a number of webinars.

Sonowal during his recent visit to Assam also proposed the launching of medicinal plant cultivations on 75,000 hectares of land with various other activities. Speaking to media persons in Guwahati, the former State chief minister argued that the cultivation campaign of medicinal plants will ensure the availability of medicines and will be a source of steady income for the farmers. The activity will be guided by the national medicinal plants board, he added.

“Ayush has the capacity and wisdom to serve all sections of the society and we are showcasing this strength and commitment during the week. And this commitment will continue to be delivered throughout the year,” commented the saffron leader adding that his ministry is dedicated to orient the young minds towards Ayush and help them remain healthy.

He also promised to start 100 new Ayush dispensaries and 1000 health & wellness centers in the north-eastern region as an initiative to promote traditional medicinal practices. Sonowal informed that rupees 70 crore financial support were sanctioned for a new Ayurvedic college hospital at Dudhnoi in western Assam and financial grants of rupees 10 crores to Jalukbari government Ayurvedic college hospital.
