Imphal east police raided Mujibur's residence at Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai and seized a huge amount of brown sugar and opium.

Imphal: In a massively successful operation, Imphal east police and Narcotics Bureau of Manipur police seized drugs worth rupees 90 crores and arrested one Muslim drug manufacturer and dealer Md Mujibur Rahman. The arrested drug dealer, Mujibur, is a constable with Manipur police and manufactured brown sugar at his home. In a confirmed tip-off, Imphal east police raided Mujibur's residence at Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai and seized a huge amount of brown sugar and opium.

Under the supervision of Imphal east SP N Herojit and SDPO N Suraj Kumar and led by the officer-in-charge, narcotic cell, Imphal East, Kh Devkumar, conducted the operation at the residence of one Md Mujibur Rahman, 42, son of late Md Fazal Khan. Police seized 11 plastic bags containing 430 kg opium (Kanni); four empty plastic bottles of ammonium chloride; two plastic bottles of ammonium chloride (1kg each); three bags of 40 kg of suspected brown sugar for the custody of Majibur Rahman. Police said that the worth of the seized drugs in the international market is estimated to be around 90 crores.

The operation was conducted in the presence of the executive magistrate of Imphal East, Ningthoujam Ratankumar Singh, SDC/Branch officer, DC, Imphal East and the volunteers of Yairipok Athletic Development Association (YADA) of Kshetrigao, Imphal East.

Arrested drug manufacturer Mujibur has been working as Manipur police head constable posted at Tamenglong district.

Imphal east SP N Herojit said the 11 bags of 430-kilogram opium and 40 kilograms of suspected brown sugar are estimated to be around Rs 90 crore in international market value.

Arrested drug dealer Mujibur disclosed that he manufactured the drugs at a factory inside his premises. He further told that Mohammed Hero of Thoubal Moijing is the distributor of the refined brown sugar produced by him and one Mohammed Firoj of Yairopok Tulihal Toubokpi is the transporter of the raw materials.

Following the disclosure by Mujibur, Md Firoj (19), son of Md Oli of Yairipok Tulihal Toupokpi, was also arrested from his residence by Imphal police.

It should be mentioned that it is one of the rare achievements where district police and narcotic cells were able to bust such a manufacturing unit located in a congested residential area before the drugs were produced in the market.
