Talking to 'Organiser' Nagaon SP Anand Mishra said a huge gang involved in this racket whose prime targets are Mandirs and Namghars. It seems that there is a group of traders active in Nagaon town who use to buy these valuable articles stolen from Mandir, Namghar and other households. These illegal traders engaged the thieves and bought back the stolen articles. It should be mentioned that Nagaon police have recovered gold silver idols of god, various articles used in prayers in Mandirs, valuable things offered by devotees in Mandirs, gold and silver jewellery offered to Mandirs by devotees etc. from the custody of the arrested gang.

The gang started operating in February, taking advantage of the night curfew imposed for the covid pandemic. So far, this gang had looted over two dozen Mandir and Namghar and several households. Nagaon police had to wait for months to catch these rats because they operate from various district places. After doing the theft, these culprits hide in remote minority areas and finding their whereabouts was quite difficult. Nagaon police, after months of planning, tested the success on Monday night. The operation continued to catch the whole gang.
