Megh Updates, with Twitter, handle @MeghUpdates, was active on Twitter providing breaking news 24X7. Its Twitter account was suspended on Friday (August 27).
Twitter did not provide any explanation for its actions. Netizens expressed their anger on this biased decision of the social media platform.
Columnist Ajit Datta posted on Twitter, “Megh Updates (@MeghUpdates) has been suspended. Looks like Twitter did not like the updates they were bringing us.”
One Twitter user, @MrSinha_ , posted, “Why did Twitter suspend @MeghUpdates? This handle used to tweet breaking news only..no trolling, no question answers, no fighting nothing…. Then why?”
MeghUpdates, in a statement, said, “Our account “Megh Updates” has been suspended by Twitter on flimsy grounds of impersonating ourselves with this account. Our Brand was created in 2019 and serving the audience with news updates.”
It added, “Seems like a strategy to shut nationalist voices…appropriate remedy is underway.”
Another Twitter user, @SoulSelfReliant , posted, “Twitter policy for hatespeech is so amazing that it suspends the purely news breaking handle @MeghUpdates but allows Taliban use it’s platform as if Taliban is a social service charity organization!! Shame on this outlandish logic!!”
