Abdul Huyez and Abdul Thuyez from Karnataka impersonated Harish Bangera on social media in December 2019 and posted blasphemous content.

Bangera spent two years in a jail in Saudi Arabia where he was working as an air-conditioner technician. On Tuesday (August 17), he landed in India after release from the Saudi jail.

Abdul Huyez and Abdul Thuyez from Karnataka impersonated Harish Bangera on social media in December 2019 and posted blasphemous content.

Bangera, who was working as an air-conditioner technician in Saudi Arabia at the time, was put behind bars.

Bangera’s wife Sumana registered a complaint with the Udupi police saying her husband has no Facebook account, so there was no question of posting any content on social media.

The Udupi police, investigating the complaint, arrested Abdul Huyez and Abdul Thuyez for impersonating Bangera on social media and posting blasphemous content.

In the third week of December, Bangera had deleted his Facebook account. But, a few days later, another account surfaced in his name, which posted blasphemous content about Mecca and the Saudi crown prince.

Bangera, a resident of Beejady village near Kundapur in the Udupi district of Karnataka, was working as an air-conditioner technician in a company in Saudi Arabia since 2014.

After this blasphemous content was posted, Bangera was arrested by the Saudi police, and his company terminated his job.

When Bangera landed in Bangalore on August 17, Shobha Karandlaje, Union minister of state for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, posted on Twitter, “Welcome Back dear Harish Bangera, We are always with you.Thank you so much Sri @DrSJaishankar Sir & Sri @VMBJP Ji. Jai Hind!”
