West Bengal MLA Mukul Roy has triggered another controversy after he said that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will emerge victorious in his constituency whenever a by-election is held.

This is the second time in a week, the former BJP leader has made such a comment.

‘BJP will win upcoming Bengal by-polls', says senior TMC leader Mukul Roy

Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy said on Friday (August 7) that the BJP will win the coming by-polls in the state. Roy had jumped ship to join TMC after winning from Krishnanagar North assembly seat on BJP ticket.

After he realised his faux pas, he immediately corrected himself saying he actually meant the TMC.

The BJP welcomed his comment saying Roy had “unwittingly spoken the truth”.

Talking to the reporters at the TMC office, Roy had said, “The BJP will win convincingly in the assembly by-polls. It will win in Tripura. There is not an iota of doubt in that.”

BJP spokesman Shamik Bhattacharya said "Mukulda has betrayed his voters in Krishnanagar North. He has lost his credibility. But he has spoken the truth. “The truth has perhaps come from his mouth as he is under tremendous mental stress," Bhattacharya.
