Kerala: COVID-19 cases show sharp increase; 22,040 new cases, 117 deaths reported

Kerala has recorded 22,040 new Covid cases and 117 COVID related deaths on Thursday (August 5), informed the health department through a press release. The death toll mounted to 17,328. The test positivity rate was climbed to 13.49 percent.
A total of 1,63,376 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram-3645, Thrissur-2921, Kozhikode- 2406, Ernakulam-2373, Palakkad- 2139, Kollam- 1547, Alappuzha-1240, Kannur-1142, Thiruvananthapuram-1119, Kottayam-1077, Kasaragod-685, Wayanad-676, Pathanamthitta- 536 and Idukki-534.
4,81,157 people are currently under observation in the state.
