Guwahati: The Assam home department has issued an advisory to its state's residents, reminding the ongoing border tension with Mizoram. The home department, in a statement, advised the people of Assam not to travel to the neighbouring state looking at the prevailing critical situations.

The statement signed by the Commissioner and Secretary of Home and political department of the government of Assam M S Manivannan reads any threat to the personal safety of the people of Assam can't be accepted. It further said people of Assam living in Mizoram due to work-related compulsion must exercise utmost caution.

The home department of Assam also stated that after the warlike incident on 26 July, where six Assam police personnel were killed and dozens injured, certain Mizo civil society and youth organisations are constantly issuing provocative statements against the state of Assam and its people.

"It has been reliably learnt from the video footage available with Assam police, that many civilians are heavily armed with automatic weapons," the home department statement stated. It should be mentioned that the disturbed area of the Assam- Mizoram border along the national highway 306 is now being controlled by CAPF.

The union home ministry asked both states to continue discussions to mutually find a solution to the border issue.
