All is not well in Tamil Nadu. After the May assembly polls, the appointment of Christians and Muslims in key posts and actions taken are not augurs well for the Tamil Nadu which tom-toms Secular nature. One wonders to feel if it is a Mogul king Aurugazeb’s or Vatican rule in Tamil Nadu.

In Madurai Corporation, an Assistant Commissioner, who ordered repairing of roads and street lights as well as keeping the road clean during the RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagavat’s visit to the temple city, was relieved from his post hours after the communication became political.

The Zonal Assistant Commissioner of Madurai Corporation (Personnel), S Shanmugam had sent a circular on 20th July to his staff to maintain RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat’s scheduled routes neat and clean besides taking up road repair on which the RSS Chief would travel during his visit to Madurai from 22nd July. He was on a four-day visit to the town. It is a routine affair any VVIP visits the town. Sarsanghchalak is scheduled to attend events at Saibaba temple in Zone 4s Sathiya Sai Nagar between 22 and 26th July. All zonal officials were asked by the Asst.

Commissioner to repair streets lights and damaged roads along the visiting VIP’s routes from the Airport. The circular asked the staff to get RSS Chief’s travel plan from his arrival at Madurai Airport and take up repair works on the road he would travel. The local body officials should not dig up any roads for renovation works on his route and the zonal officers were asked to keep a watch on it During the planned time, Shanmugam asked his staff that all other civic activity, including road renovation, be stopped across the four zones. He asked them to attach top priority to the repairs all along the VIP route from Airport.

This internal circular was leaked with a motive by black sheep in the Corporation. It went viral on social media. In a tweet, Madurai Marxist MP Su Venkatesan questioned under what rule of Madurai Corporation had the Assistant Commissioner issued such a circular to do repairs and other related works were ordered to be done? He demanded an explanation from the Madurai Corporation and the district administration on Twitter. He asked as to which government rule such an order had been issued.

Congress MP (Virudhunagar) also criticized the civic body for foisting a red carpet welcome on an RSS leader at taxpayer money. Several leftists and Dravidian organizations have also requested that the official be punished immediately. The left and Dravidians have conveniently forgotten the fact that TN government allotted a residential quarter to veteran CPI leader R Nallakannu (94) in the government housing colony in Nandanam, free of rent for lifetime in February last year. His wife, a retired Headmistress drawing pension from the government, 2 daughters are medical professionals. it is alleged that the family of late Congress leader P Kakkan ( a Dalit, who was known for his simplicity in public life lived without a blemish and had remained incorruptible’) struggled in penury) were forcefully evicted. Did Nallakannu need a house when his family members were rich? He can’t be incorruptible once he accepted rent-free accommodation from the government. People like Kakkan and freedom fighters find life struggling.

Corporation Commissioner KP, Karthikeyan maintained initially that this was done as part of security arrangements given for the “Z” plus category protectee. After the Assistant Commissioner’s became controversy, Shanmugam was asked to give an explanation for unilaterally issuing the circular that gave room for ambiguity and also for issuing it without getting permission from higher officials in violation of administrative procedures. Later in the day, he was relieved of his duty.

In Tamil Nadu the police machinery is biased. Recently Father Maria Susai was appointed a member of TN Public Service Commission. He is a Christian (Salesin order) pastor and a known Maoist sympathizer. He is the rector of Janodya Salesian college at the Yercaud hill station. He alleged to have a highly controversial past and a close relationship with recently dead Urban Naxal Stainlaus Lourduswamy aka Stan Swamy. The appointment is a reward to the Christians who voted en masse for the DMK. He openly said how he subtly included lessons on Christianity when he was a member of the syllabus review panel in TN. He is a vocal DMK supporter like Ezra Sargunam. Dindigul I Leoni, popular debate show moderator, was appointed TN Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. He is known for his sexist remarks during debate shows and during election campaigns. He made a parallel between the waist of Tamil woman with barrels.

CM Stalin, his cabinet colleague K Ponmudi, MPs Kanimozhi, Dayanidhi Maran , MLAs Sinthanaiselval of VCK , Inigo Irudhyaraj of DMK , state minority commission chairman Peter Alphonse paid floral tributes to the ashes of urban Naxal Stan Swamy’s urn and his photo kept at Loyola College in Chennai.

Complaint against the pastor for his hate speech

On Sunday ( 18th July) in the Arunai area at a protest a meeting Christians and Muslims attended, Christian pastor George Ponnaiah made disparaging remarks against Bharat Mata, Bhumi Mata, Mandaikadu Bhagavathi, Sushindram temple, PM Modi and HM Amita Shah. It is purely hated speech and intended to create communal clashes between Hindus and minorities. Hindu Munnani has preferred a complaint against him seeking action. In Tamil Nadu, the police never takes action against anyone from minority community, DMK, Dravidian Kazhagam, VCK , left and fringe fundamental parties but will arrest and book BJP, RSS ,VHP, Hindu Munnani cadres under goondas act even without compliant. They are yet to arrest lyricist Vairamuthu, K Veeramani, Thol Thirumavlavalan, M K Stalin, his sister Kanimozhi and others. Normally they register FIRs with weaker bailable sections if at all forced to do so. In George Ponnaiah case, he said it was due to the pittance of Christians and Muslims, DMK won the polls. He said they were shoes to avoid skin rashes from Bhoomi mata. He said ‘ we are majority and Hindus should take note of it. “ the east company which came to Indian for trade, Bharat did not support the missionaries and their conversion business. But Thirumalai Naicker and his wife gave them accommodation and the rest is history. The pastor said, “we are 62 per cent. You can’t stop us. Take it as a warning to Hindu brethren”. A back of the envelope calculation, Christians 62 plus Muslims 10 per cent, Hindus become a minority. Now tell who needs to be given minority status” asks a journalist. George Ponnaiah is the High-level committee member of the Democratic Christian Forum. BJP legal wing secretary Aswathaman filed a complaint with the City police commissioner.

Last week a piece Vadapalani temple land was given under force by HR and CE authorities to an illegal mosque. Muslims and the local MLA prevented the authorities from doing their duty. No case was foisted on them till the time of writing this article. These are only a few to mention. Tamil Nadu is turning another Kashmir, West Bengal type situation. Opposition have no say. Their democratic and fundamental rights are slowly being denied. Stifling their voices is the first step and slapping goondas act. These are reminders of colonial rule or fascist era.
