Bar Council of Delhi has suspended Adv Iqbal Malik (enrolment no. D/759/2003)’s license following a complaint of his chamber being used for religious conversion and performing Nikah. The action was initiated following the complaint of one Sohan Singh Tomar, who accused that his daughter was forcefully converted to Islam and was married off at the office of Adv Iqbal Malik (Chamber No. F-322). His chamber is also referred to as  ‘MazarWali Masjid’ in the marriage certificate of the converted girl.

Adv Iqbal is also accused of running a conversion trust from his chamber.

The Bar Council of Delhi’s order states that “the alleged activities are not permissible nor are part of the professional activities of an advocate and your conduct in performing a Nikah and issuance of a certificate of conversion and Nikahnama/Marriage Certificate is totally disgraceful and negates the dignity of the legal profession.”

Adv Iqbal is asked to submit a response to the Special Disciplinary Committee within one week and also to appear before the committee on July 16th at4 PM.
“Looking into the averments in the complaint and the documents prima facie, the activities performing the Nikah in the Chamber/Court premises cannot be permitted by an advocate or any other person, as it calls for such an urgent action by the Bar Council,” the notice stated.
BCD Chairman Ramesh Gupta also requested the Delhi High Court registrar general and the DCP concerned to provide all necessary information and extend all support to the committee.
