In a shocking case of Love Jihad from Agra in Uttar Pradesh, one Arif Hashmi posed as businessman Aditya Arya and married a retired IAS officer’s daughter.
The victim got to know about his real identity after a year of marriage. With threats of killing her and making her intimate videos viral, he got her converted and gave her a new identity as Aisha Hashmi.
The victim, whose husband died in 2005, met Arif at a party in Lucknow in 2010. He posed as businessman Aditya Arya and married her in an Arya Samaj temple the same year.
A year after the marriage, when the victim got to know about his real identity, he threatened her into submission. He threatened to kill her, her mother, who lives in Lucknow, and even threatened to make her intimate videos viral.
The victim has a daughter from a previous marriage. He also threatened to harm the daughter.
In the investigation, the police have found that Arif has taken a fake Hindu identity at least 5-6 times in the last 25 years. Police are investigating all the cases.
In 1996, he posed as Rana Singh in Gorakhpur and married a Hindu girl.
The police are also looking into whether Arif has any ties to Mohammed Omar Gautam, whom the Uttar Pradesh ATS arrested recently for allegedly conducting a conversion racket.
Arif has been associated with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and wanted to contest the 2017 state assembly polls from Gorakhpur. But he was denied the party ticket. He is now planning to contest from the Aam Aadmi Party.
