A delegation of the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA) led by its national president Ramchandra Kharadi met ministers and officials in Delhi and apprised them of their demands about the post-poll violence in West Bengal.
It asked a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Supreme Court to look into the incidences of violence perpetrated by TMC cadre since the election commission announced the assembly election results on May 2.
The delegation met Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy in Delhi on June 30 and submitted the memorandum of demands.
It also asked for monetary compensation for the victims and their families and requested for deployment of central security forces for the safety of the victims.
The delegation also met National Commission for Scheduled Tribes chairperson Harsh Chauhan.
It demanded an office of the NCST in West Bengal to monitor the cases on a day-to-day basis.
The post-poll violence in West Bengal has affected 40000 people in 3662 villages of 16 districts. Over 35 people have lost their lives and, thousands had to flee their homes for safety.
The VKA delegation demanded jobs for the families of victims.
The Calcutta High Court-appointed NHRC team, which is also investigating the cases of post-poll violence in the state, will submit its report on, July 13. The interim report has already been submitted.
