The matter came to light on June 27 when the victim’s father complained to the police. Accused Wahab has been arrested.
The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested one Wahab (31) on Sunday (June 27) who posed as Deshraj Gautam and married a farmer’s daughter in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district.
Wahab approached the farmer two years back as Deshraj Gautam and took his land on lease for farming. He recorded some intimate videos of the farmer’s daughter.
He threatened the victim into submission by threatening to release the videos.
He also forcefully converted the victim and got her a new identity in the name of Simran.
After the farmer’s complaint, Wahab was arrested, and police are now investigating the case.
In November last year, the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh promulgated an ordinance against illegal religious conversions in the state.
The provisions of the law prohibit any religious conversion for marriage without sanction from the district magistrate.
Senior district police officer Awadhesh Singh said that Wahab had been arrested, and the police were investigating the case.
Wahab has produced a marriage certificate that shows the date of marriage as of March 15, 2020 and the identity of the victim as Simran.
The victim’s father said Wahab was threatening the girl, and the farmer's family was living in a fearful environment.
