New Delhi: India has raised the drone attack on Jammu Air Base at United Nations.
Amid drone activities in Jammu from across the border, India has raised the issue at the High-Level Conference of the Head of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of the Member States of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
"The possibility of the use of weaponized drones for terrorist purposes against strategic and commercial assets calls for serious attention by the member states. We have witnessed terrorists using Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to smuggle weapons across borders," said V.S.K. Kaumudi, Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India at the meet.
"Being a low-cost option and easily available, utilization of these aerial/sub-surface platforms for sinister purposes by terrorist groups such as intelligence collection, weapon/explosives delivery, and targeted attacks have become an imminent danger and challenge for security agencies worldwide," he said.
The top Home Ministry official's comments, following the two low-intensity explosions in the technical sector of Jammu Air Force Station on Sunday (June 27).
The NIA and other agencies are currently investigating Pakistan's involvement in the drone operation.
It may be mentioned that, recently, Ajit Doval also raised similar concerns at the SCO meeting of NSAs.
He stated that emerging technology used by terrorists, such as drones for weapon smuggling and the exploitation of the dark web, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and social media, must be monitored.
Meanwhile, in his address at the UNGA, Special Secretary Kaumudi said it is high time that the international community calls upon Pakistan to take effective, verifiable, and irreversible actions against terror outfits operating on the territory under its control.
He further said: "The world must remain united against tendencies of labeling of terrorism based on terrorist motivations especially those based on religion, and political ideologies. This will certainly divide us and weaken our fight against terrorism".
"The transborder nature of this threat calls for collective and unified action by the international community, with no excuse or exceptions, ensuring that those countries which provide safe havens to terrorists should be called out and held accountable," the Special Secretary said.
